About the role:
As a Senior Attorney, you will be responsible for representing clients in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in trial work, with at least 7 years of experience practicing personal injury law. You should be highly skilled in litigation, with excellent research and writing abilities. You should also have strong communication skills and the ability to effectively advocate for clients. Experience managing a team is a plus.
The below is not an exhaustive list but provides an expectation of the likely day to day responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Review case files and draft pleadings, discovery requests and responses, motions, briefs, and other case-related documents.
- Regularly communicate with clients to discuss their case, provide status updates, and answer any questions. Maintains contact at a minimum of 90-days.
- Conduct factual investigations and analyze evidence. Prepare witnesses, experts, and clients for depositions, arbitrations, mediations and trials.
- Take and defend depositions of parties, percipient witnesses, and expert witnesses. Prepare for and make court appearances (case management conferences, motion hearings, status conferences, etc.).
- Prepare for and participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings (e.g. mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, etc.).
- Draft pre-trial documents and motions in limine. Serve as 1st or 2nd chair at trial or arbitration.
- Draft post-trial motions.
- Prepare for and participate in appeals.
- Emphasis on client focused mindset and ability to effectively leverage data, analytics and technology. Able to contribute to a strategic, adaptable and results driven team.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Juris Doctorate and member in good standing of the California State Bar. Additional admission to the Oregon and/or Washington state bar is a plus.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience as an attorney practicing civil litigation, preferably plaintiff’s personal injury, including 5+ years experience managing their own caseload with the support of a dedicated team, and jury trial experience. Experience as a 1st chair is a plus.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, Westlaw (preferred), and the internet.
- Ability to work well with others on a team of attorneys, paralegals, administrative assistants, and supervised by the Litigation Manager and/or Partner(s).
- Ability to independently handle a heavy caseload.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are key to working with a variety of people as well as for preparing pleadings, briefs, motions, and correspondence, collaborating with others, etc.
- Strong critical thinking skills and solid academic background.
- Strong sense of urgency about problem solving, meeting deadlines and achieving goals.
- Knowledgeable, attentive, and proactive.
- Excellent communicator, negotiator, public speaker, and problem solver.
- Self-motivated and goal oriented.
- Inclined to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision as you will work independently as well as part of a cohesive team.
- Detail oriented, organized, and effective communicator.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.
- Periodically lifting in excess of 20 pounds throughout the day, particularly when in trial.
- Bending and lifting more than 20 pounds, entering and exiting a vehicle, maneuvering files and computer at courthouse security checkpoints.
- Turning and twisting at work.
- May drive up to 40-50 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area to attend court hearings, trial, depositions, plaintiff medical exams, etc.
- Sitting for pro-longed periods of time en route to court, in court or at court proceedings, depositions, etc.
- Walking and carrying files from vehicle to court, the legal proceeding and/or deposition, and facilitations, etc.
- Trial preparation could require lifting in excess 20 lbs. because of exhibits, materials, evidence, etc. These materials are printed for some proceedings.
- Ability to work in a remote or virtual work environment.
- Ability to travel within the San Francisco Bay Area, California.

Salary:
Salary range starts at $175,000 plus performance-based bonuses. The salary range does not guarantee, obligate nor set expectations of an applicant’s salary in the event of hire. Actual compensation will depend upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications and skill set.
